School of Visual Communication and Media Design

The school, a merger of Department of Visual Communication and Department of Digital Art & Design, was established in September, 2010.

Now the school has six academic emphases: Visual Communication and Design, Brand Design, Information Design, New Media Art and Design, Digital Animation, Arts, and Design, and Digital Entertainment and Design. Altogether there are 41 staff members in the school. Among the 37 full-time Teachers, there are 3 Professors, and 8 Associate Professors. It has 629 undergraduate students and 51 postgraduates. The school boasts several renowned experts and professors: Yin Dingbang, Wang Shouzhi, Zhao Jian, Dong Meihong, Chen Xiaoqing, and Hu Chuanni, to name a few.

The School advocates reform in the modes of teaching, exploring the change from traditional classroom teaching to the mode of teaching & research section plus teaching studio. Altogether there are 8 teaching & research sections: Elementary Knowledge section, Visual Communication & Design section, Brand & Advertisement Design section, Information Design section, New Media Art and Design section, Digital Imaging section, Animation & Digital Art section, and Digital Entertainment & Design section. And there are 12 studios of design teaching. The school also has a computer room, a three-dimensional animation laboratory, a digital creative design laboratory, and digital images laboratory.

In recent years, to keep up with the times, the school has catered to social demands by integrating the school with the Industry and the Research Institute, and served the region’s economic, cultural, and social development. Thanks to its competent graduates and the cooperation with the industry and the research institute, the School has made a host of remarkable achievements: the design of the visual landscape, the mascots, the animated cartoons, and the publicity film for the 16thAsian Games, the new media art and design of China Pavilion, Shanxi Pavilion, and Zhongshan Pavilion for 2010 Shanghai World Exposition. In 2011, the school set up Center for the Research of Visual Communication and Media Design.
